It's Mother's Day. A time to celebrate but here is a word of warning. The rules governing child custody are changing in Illinois and elsewhere. More and more women are losing custody of their children. This is a very noticeable trend and this blog will attempt to ascerrtain why.
I would say that at least 1 and 4 child custody cases I encounter involve alcohol or some other substance abuse. These cases are difficult but they are especially challenging when children are involved. The right to parent is a constitutional right but the children's best interests must be considered and their wellbeing must be protected.
More and more fathers are demanding equal time with their children or "split custody". When they talk child custody, they want half the time with their kids. In the State of Florida, a bill was recently introduced which would have required a 50/50 split.
I believe that most parents genuinely want what is best for their children. Nine times out of ten that is the reason many believe they have to engage in a custody battle.

1. Have your kids' clothes and belongings ready before visitation or the beginning of your ex's parenting time. If dad or mom doesn't have clothes at his or home, pack your children's clothing in advance. Even if there are clothes at the other parents' house, there might be some special teddy bear or a piece of electronics that your children will want to bring with them.
The Illinois legislature has sent Governor Rauner a bill that will make massive changes in our current child custody law and other aspects of Illinois Divorce Law.
