Four Reasons Not to Delay Filing for Divorce!
1. You can be liable for your wife or husband’s debt! You may make a decision to live separate lives maybe even in separate residences. You may have been living separate and apart for years. But what if you own an investment property together, your spouse could decide to stop paying on that property? There is a foreclosure and your credit is ruined or both of your names are on a car your wife or husband drives. He or she stops making payments and your credit is ruined.
3. Your Retirement Savings Can be impacted in a big way. You may have been living separately for a number of years. In the meantime, you are acquiring the rights to a pension or socking away a large amount of money in a 401(k) or an IRA. Once you go to retire, your estranged wife or husband most likely will demand his or her share. You will have to argue to the court that due to the long separation and his or her lack of contribution, he or she should not have dibs on your retirement savings.

4.A strained marriage has an impact on your children. You may make the decision to stay together for your children but they can sense the tension between you. If the home is like a war zone, it will affect your children.
My advice is to carefully consider your legal options and the consequences of delaying divorce when your marriage has truly unravelled.
